FHDDL – Week 2
As the weather gets worse, the league gets better and week 2 threw up some high scoring encounters.
League leaders in Div 1 the Brick B beat an understrength Maple Tree by 10 – 3 in Penge. As an away performance it was akin to Chelsea’s visit to Anfield, but unlike Liverpool at least the Maple lads made a game of it.
Performance of the night in Div 1 though, was undoubtably the Penge boys 11 – 2 victory against the wily Fox’s , an impressive score by any standards and one that sent a tsunami-style shock wave through the division. The noisy nosebleed neighbours are looking good to repeat their heroics from the summer season and are still a good bunch of lads, or so they tell me.
Brick A returned to winning ways this week with a 9 – 4 win over the Navy Club. So it looks like Harry’s hairdryer team talk did the trick! The Navy have had two tough opening fixtures and so to come out with 10 points is no disgrace at all. However turning up at the Santiago Bernabeu with a reserve side, now that is a disgrace!
Nap A avoided defeat this week (and fines) with a bye.
Div 2 performance of the week was a 10 – 3 win by the Cat Cyphers at the Brock Soc A. The Cyphers found the home side at their most sociable on Thurs and have hit top spot as a result. I guess being tipped as one of the favourites last week by yours truly was too much of a burden for the Brockley crew to bear and a rejigged side picked in the style of Brendan Rodgers lost out to an impressive Cyphers performance.
In a bad week for North London, (I feared my chuckle muscle would rupture on Sunday), it was a great week for Catford as the Cricket Club also won by an 8 – 5 margin at the Fox’s. The Fox’s A side losing for a second week by a three leg margin.
Hither Green RC opened their win account with a 9 – 4 against the Nap B keeping the B on the bottom in the rankings, but with only 9 points between the other seven teams it is already looking like a very competitive season ahead. Certainly more interesting than the Rosetta comet landing, which was like watching a Changing Rooms DVD on a loop, yes it is literally watching paint dry.
The closest game of the evening was the Rising Sun winning by the odd leg against the Brock Soc B. The Sun move into second with this win, but the top Brockley sides are close behind and the top 4 play each other in week 3, so expect some closer scorelines next week.
Enjoy this week’s fixtures and play with a smile like Nigel Farage in a brewery.
GREAT DARTS!!
