Welcome back to the blog avid readers and I hope you both had a good break. The close season flew by and before you know it we are back in the cut and thrust of full-on league action again, going at it like two UKIP supporters fighting over buying a pint for Nigel Farage, the people's pisshead.
In Div 1 it is the Brick B that are the early pace setters, or should I say pace makers... Changes in personnel this term have meant that Chas Nicholas' team's average age is in buspass territory now. But to be fair, the scores were as high as the blood pressure, as they beat the Nap A 9 - 4 in a keenly contested opener. On a disappointing night for the Nap the doubles proved as elusive as sense from the mouth of Boris Johnson, and the final score was a tad harsh, but the game between Mickey Chester and Alan Hazell rolled back the years and was the highlight of the evening in my view.
The Summer League Champs Penge Trades trekked over to Forest Hill to take on the Navy Club and in a game tighter than a gnat's nethers, secured a 7-6 win in Wastdale Road. It is a welcome return to the Navy Club and a creditable performance against the side from the Royston, who despite the journey, kept on to the bitter end like Harry Redknapp undoubtably will at QPR, until the axe falls as surely as night follows Mervyn Day.
In the other Div 1 clash, the Fox's B followed their impressive summer season with a 7 - 6 win against the Brick A at home. Another close result and an indication that no-one will find a trip to Kirkdale a cakewalk this season. The Brick A did not travel the 250 yards well, but will be hoping for a better result next week at home to the Navy.
The Maple kept their powder dry this week and host the Brick B next week.
In Div 2 the Brockley A set the standard. In a one-sided game they were soon safer than Waterstone's in a South Londion riot, as they only lost a single leg away to the Nap B. A formidable start for one of the clear favourites in this division. A disappointing night for the Nap B, who completed a dismal start for both Napier sides, however as Prof Brian Cox would attest, both before and after he left D-Ream, "Things can only get better".
The Rising Sun scored a thumping good 10-3 win at the Catford Cricket Club after returning from a summer off. The Catford side were bowled over and the Sun were in the ascendancy, so no chance of rain stopping play on this occasion. No reports of Pieterson-style hissy fits either!
The Catford Cyphers hoster the Hither Green Club and proved poor hosts as they handed out a 9 - 4 beating to the newbies . A great effort. As evidenced by the pre-season friendly turn out, the Hither Green will not lack for players, but the captain will face a Brendan Rodgers style selection headache in keeping his cohorts happy with so many on the bench each week.
In the final game of the week, the Brock Soc B beat Fox's A 8 -5 in SE4. Usually a quiet venue, I am sure that the cheers rang long into the night on a successful first game for the home side. Longer methinks than the Labour cheers after the Scottish referendum, as they face meltdown in the general election north of the border and Alastair Darling has thought better of 'Better Together' and is chucking the towel in. At least they have a charismatic leader to rely on. Step forward..... err..... Ed Miliband! Welcome back to the Fox's A and hopefully an enjoyable season.
Enjoy the game, the drink and grab some food early would be my advice.
GREAT DARTS!!!!
