The Penge Trades moved, like Chelsea, one week closer to the title (only kidding), as they put the Napier B to the sword by 11 - 2 in SE20. They are now a handsome 5 points clear of their nearest rivals and they are so close to victory that they can smell it through their blood-filled nostrils. They are on a great run and just a couple more good wins should see them home.
But enough of the upper echelons, let's return to the bottom, as is usually my personal preference, where the Nap B avoided dropping to the basement spot because of the 8 - 5 scoreline at the Cypher's club. The Brock Soc B were the victors on this occasion and must have been well pleased to secure their third win of the season and create a cushion of 10 points between themselves and the bottom two. Like Man Utd, they don't qualify to be called a mid-table side yet, but look to be just clear of the wooden spoon contest.
In a genuine mid-table clash at Bovill Road, the Nap A ran out narrow winners in a 7 - 6 result against the Fox's. The Fox's have been involved in 7 out of 14 single leg wins/losses and so if you fancy a tense, nervous evening wondering whether you will get a result or not,it is no longer necessary to engage in internet dating - just go and support the Fox's on a Thursday night. Or alternatively, go to Crystal's on a Saturday night !
It was a potential battle of the lollipop men at the Napier, and although the genial Alan Punt was in attendance for the Kirkdale boys, the other school crossing patrolperson, the equally genial Ted Wedge was conspicuous by his absence. I guess it would have been overkill to have two lollipop men within 7ft 9 1/4 ins, even for Lewisham Council !
The Brick A were at home to everyone's favourite team from Penge, the Maple Tree and won a close game 7 - 6 after being 6-2 up. So the Maple lads must be applauded for their fighting spirit in the face of almost inevitable defeat, much like student's friend Nick Clegg as he approaches the election with all the optimism of a disabled hedgehog crossing the M25.
Meanwhile, the Brick B closed the gap on the Brick A in the battle for runners-up placing as they won a tense game 8 - 5 against the Brock Soc A. In a close game the Brick made a good fist of the singles, (if not the doubles) and came from behind like Mo Farah busting for a piss. It was quite a turnaround, but not as extreme as that experienced by Frank/Kellie Maloney last week.
Keep playing the game with a smile, and I hope you avoided a dodgy partner, in the pairs, and in life too.....
GREAT DARTS!!
