It’s all change at the top this week as the Penge Trades have hit the front with six games to go. As they look down from their unaccustomed lofty perch 2 points clear at the summit, any suggestion of a nosebleed has been dismissed as they look forward to the run-in, in confident mood and good form. Fair to say they have come from behind in a rush, which can be the best tactic in my experience. This week they gave the Cat Cyphers a 10 –3 beating and the Cyphers remain at the foot of the table as a result.
Ten points may seem a good return, but the Brick A went one better and
jumped up to second place with an 11-2 win. They ripped through the Brock Soc B like ex-hurricane Bertha ripped through Cornwall, without quite the power, but with a degree more subtlety and precision as befits a team with ‘Twinkletoes’ Chris Bonner in their line up. The Napier B are closing up on the Brock Soc B now, who will be hoping for an improved leg tally next week against the rampant Royston rams, a team with more than a scent of blood in their nostrils!
Brock Soc A meanwhile, continued their good run of late with another win, 7 –6 over the Maple Tree. Two mid-table teams having a scrap over the spoils like Jan Molby and John Barnes at an Anfield reunion buffet. The Brock Soc A are away to the Fox’s next week after they had another good week.
The Champions were humbled in much the same way as the blue half of Manchester when they visited the National Stadium this week. Although a more modest venue, the Fox’s proved to be an equally tricky place to visit. Alan Aslett set the tone of the night with a great 156 finish in the first triples and the Fox’s completed the double over the Brick B with another 7 – 6 win. As the Brick B drop to third they will need to step up during the coming holiday season if they are to challenge for the top spot this term. The Fox’s are still level on points, but remain below the Brock A by virtue of the vagaries of the alphabet
only.
At the Napier, the A faced off against the B. The Nap A were the clear favourites
before the event, but had to endure an unexpected defeat, much like Alex Salmond in the Scottish Referendum Debate. Roly-Poly Salmond fell at the first when he was revealed to have no Plan B when it came to lacking pounds sterling, a problem I face daily, and the Nap A failed to execute their Plan A when arriving with just 4 players. Consequently the Nap B ran out 8 – 5 winners on what proved to be for them, like a tryst with Kylie Minogue, a good night at the bottom.
Let’s hope that the Napier A manage to muster more players for the trip to Penge and the long walk to the Maple Tree next week, a walk that would challenge even Gandhi and Mandela, who sadly are not available (or registered - see rule 21).
Keep playing and enjoying the game , but try to avoid everyone’s least
favourite superhero, ‘Random Treble Man’ this Thursday.
GREAT DARTS!!
