It’s a BOGOF week on the blog this week, so two weeks blog in one, you lucky b......
The Penge Trades are now joint top as a result of two impressive home wins, 11-2 against the Brock Soc A and a 10-3 win against the Nap A. They have now completed 6 home games out of the 9 played and will have to cope with the jet lag, acclimatise to playing outside SE20 and venture in from ‘the sticks’ to more civilised venues.
Brick B stay at the top although on level points with the Penge boys, by virtue of a narrow last leg defeat to their board-sharing friends the Brick A. The second defeat for the Brick B this season, both by the odd leg. Believe me, in the heat this Thursday there were some very odd legs on show at the Dartmouth Road hostelry. The first 2 legs were longer than Maria Sharapova’s, but much less interesting...
The Brick A enjoyed their victory loudly and enthusiastically, needing a boost after only beating a five player Nap A 8-5 last week and dropping to an unexpected third. They will not settle for that though, so expect ‘Hardman’ Harry Coulter, a keen golfer, to whip them into shape for the back nine.
The Nap B completed their third home game on the spin against everyone’s favourite Penge team...... The Maple Tree. They collected 4 points after last week’s home defeat, 2-11 to the Brick B when one of their number was heard to say at 5-2 down that it was “time to concentrate on my average”. Proof positive that although there is no ‘I’ in team, there is a ‘ME’. Don’t worry, your secret’s safe here CJ! The Maple Tree continue their impressively improved run and face the Brick B next week in what looks to be a titanic encounter.
Catford Cyphers completed a double over the Brock Soc A and move off of the bottom. A 13 point haul in the last fortnight is a good indication of the Cypher’s improvement and a third win of the season after some heavy defeat shows real character. Character is overrated to be fair as Rolf Harris was regarded as a bit of a character.
The Brock Soc A meanwhile, are on a worse trot than Malaysian Airlines lately and need something to turn around against the B side in SE4 next week after picking up a meagre 8 points in the last two fixtures.
The Brock B side lost 5-8 to the Fox’s and by the same score to the Maple Tree last week, so not a good week but they only have to look at Nick ‘Calamity’ Clegg to feel much happier with life. For the Fox’s, a much needed win puts them straight after 2 defeats in the last three.
Napier A did well with only 5 against the Brick A and then less well at the Royston Club in deepest Penge, when tired out after the journey they were beaten 10-3.
Catford Cyphers will have to find the Napier in Bovill Road behind the scaffolding erected by Total Scaffolding, a very good, efficient and experienced crew if ever I’ve seen one (thanks for the drink Chris) and the refurbished Napier will no doubt be popular with all other teams in the league during the second half of the season (thanks for the drink too Ian). But enough ads....
Enjoy the game and even more so the beer.
GREAT DARTS!!
